Study Records, Final Report 1966-1978; 1977-1978

Records in this series comprise those related to the study on the diaconate conducted by management committee of the Lutheran Church in America's Division for Professional Leadership (DPL). These files date are from 1966-1978, but the bulk date from 1977-1978 and were generated in the course of the initiation of the study on the diaconate, the creation of the study itself, and reaction to the study and its conclusions. Record types include correspondence, topical papers, draft and final versions of the study paper, written responses, individual responses, reports, circular letters, schedules, and agenda. Of note, records in the folder labeled "Material for Consultation" provide a comprehensive summary of issues surrounding the study on the diaconate. Some materials in this folder may be duplicate of others in the series, but these were retained as they were initially presented, a resource notebook for those attending the consultation, because it provides a succinct record of issues considered at the consultation. These materials include annotations made by Robert H. Fischer, a consultant at the management committee consultation.
